Looking Into The Eyes Of Another

Once more

Against the day

Always and forever

Raging against the clock

Before

It stops

Once more

Against the night

Where we turn fears into dreams

And hope for the best

As the body decays

We look for the time to rest

Once more

Against the mind

The real enemy of time

It's a trick by a sick prick

That face in the mirror

Staring back

As the glass cracks

Running down the middle of tortured eyes

Once more

Against the hard lines

Where smiles used to be

Now

Upside down

Stuck

In a permanent frown

What goes up

Must come down

Once more

Through the traffic

Alone on this planet

Surrounded by strangers

Who don’t stop for the man

They can’t understand

Once more

Into the shower

Where sometimes I’ll sit under the water

For an hour

Washing myself clean

There’s so much dirt under these fingernails

Once more

Looking into the eyes of another

A sister or a brother

And I see it

The same feelings

But they bare it

With a chin up

And a right-side up frown

She is me and I am her

And if she can do it

Surely I can too

After all

You are me

And

I am you.
