The Fish And The Bird

1 min read

A fish

fell in love

with a bird;

weird, I know

She’d fly to the bank of the lake

and look down

where the fish would be waiting

looking up at a love barely out of reach

Although muffled,

they could hear each other speak

and every day

 around midday

they met to talk

The fish wished he could leave the water

and the bird wished she had gills

they were too different, from different worlds

one flew

while the other swam

they had different paths, different plans

a fish could never love a bird

no, not according to everyone who ever lived

not according to the laws of the physics

None of it stopped the fish from trying

One day

after their midday conversation

he tried to climb up out of the water

but his fins were dog-shit for climbing

he kept trying

slipping and sliding

he kept trying

the sun beating down on him

he had trouble breathing

but then

after the 122nd time trying to climb out of the water

he felt a pain in his back and started to panic

wings started to spring out of his torso

and as he fell down again

he screamed in pain

before his new wings caught him

he was flying

The fish grew wings and now he and the bird sing songs of love to the trees.

Everyone lived happily and nothing sad or hard ever happened to them or anyone.

THE END.
