If Animals Had A Religion

I saw the quote, 

     “If animals had a religion, 

Humanity would be the devil.”

It sounded pretty cool at first. It really got me thinking for a minute or two. 

I said to myself, “Whoa . . .” I definitely remember saying that out loud. 

But, then I remembered that we still are animals, and we can't separate ourselves out of nature. It's all one whole being. We are all one. Nature is us. We are it. 

I took a breath and calmed my mind. 

I had gotten wrapped up in a poet's twisted sleight of hand. I almost drank poison out of the hands of the philosopher. 

Phew. Dodged that one. 

Thank God we aren't superior to the slug. 

And thank this earth we are as grand as the mountains.
