The Long Long Tired

It isn’t just the body

that gets tired

sometimes

it's the soul

and

the heart.

They can feel

heavy

exhausted

weighted.

And sleep won’t fix it.

Sometimes

the will

the drive,

they need a break.

It’s the long tired

The long long tired

The tired that years of living wrong bring.

The tired that comes from selling a piece of your soul everyday

There’s an anchor

on the spirit

It stays above water sometimes

but when the day is long

and the laughter is forced,

it gets pulled under

Even mindlessly typing

is hard

when

you’re

this

tired

The body feels it too

down into the bones

and behind the eyes

Some nights,

the mind demands a rest.

It needs time away

from the constant abuse

and stimulation.

I don’t know how parents do it.
