Swallowing Dynamite
“Empathy without boundaries is simply self-destruction.” - Random dude with glasses.
Whoa, that’s a hard hitter, my guy. Take it easy on me. Don’t come at me with ‘destructive empathy’. Just let me be. I just want to be. Let me exist just like this, even if it is destructive . . . Shit. We can’t just be, can we? . . . I see. Everyone is a little wonky. But she still loves me . . . doesn’t she?
“Someone punches a hole through your whole life and you crawl into that hole, searching for clues about them.”
Down,
Down,
Down
we go,
Down Alice’s rabbit hole,
Into the unknown;
Where we are forced to conform or rebel;
A slack-line
above hell,
and underneath heaven, we balance;
we walk, fire snapping under our heels, sunlight on our skin.
The mushroom trip ends and begins within.
Alice punched a hole through our soul
and we wandered around the dark empty space
that was left inside of us, looking for an answer,
where we only found a reason to forgive,
but it was a vice
disguised as a lesson.
Life isn’t math.
It isn’t as straightforward as that.
Everything can't be a blessing.
The White Rabbit gives us more time.
The Mad Hatter drops the absurdity of life at our feet.
The door shrinks. The door grows.
Or are we shrinking?
Are we growing?
Huh . . . Which way to go?
A fading cat smiles back.
The Cheshire grows weary of constant conformity,
and asks a question that breaks The Queens back.
The King says everyone has their own song to sing,
and then belts out a few burps of his own,
Before sitting down on a throne of bones.
Alice punched a hole into our soul,
And instead of leaving,
We came back to make sure she was alright . . .
We crawled through the hole,
Determined to explore her more,
Refusing to let go.
We struck a light
In the darkness,
And held onto hope,
But,
Was it right?
Or was it just,
Empathy without boundaries?
Was is just
swallowing dynamite and expecting not to explode?
“Someone punches a hole through your whole life and you crawl into that hole, searching for clues about them.”
Relax, dude. Take it easy on me . . .
