For The Plot

What if I told you that I never loved you?
That I did it all for the plot?
Would you believe me?
. . . I see.
Is there anything I could say that would make you believe that I didn't love you?
. . . I see.
Well,
I did it all for the plot.
I really did.
I faked all the tears.
And I faked all the fears.
I faked every hug.
And I faked every kiss.
What if I told you that you won't be missed?
Would you believe me?
. . . I see.
What if I told you that I was the one who wasn't ready? And you were the one whose heart was steady?
That might be true . . .
What if it was me that rushed us? And me that broke our trust?
What if it was me that knew what to do, but did the wrong thing anyway?
What if the more you pulled away, the tighter I tried to hold onto you?
That one is probably true . . . Don't you think that one is true?
What if I was always more afraid then you were? And still am?
What then?
What if you can't leave me? What if when I go, you are the one who feels alone?
Huh, babe? What do we do then?
Do we fade away?
Or push each other away?
Or will you ask me to stay?
And what if I am the one to blame for this mess, not you?
Would you believe me?
