A Life Well Lived

A life well lived
One
When at the end
We can look back at
Without telling ourselves any lies
Without playing pretend
And feel it within
A peace from a life well lived
One with no regrets
Perfectly content in our last moment . . .
There is no need to fear the end
If we know we didn’t just live
But that
We were in fact
Alive
To face death
With our chest out
And our chin high
Because we were alive
We didn't just waste our time
We pushed our bodies
And grew our minds
We lived a life we were proud of
We took chances
And loved well
When we die
It’ll mean something to us
If we can look back
And honestly tell ourselves
We tried
We really tried
We failed
We cried
We cared
We loved
And we died
We will able to feel like
We were truly alive
To life a life well lived
Is how we can boldly face death
Despite the dive into the unknown
Where fear grows
We can be bold
If we have chosen to live
A life that was well lived
A life we made our own
We will have turned a house
Into a home
We will have made a dog
A pet
We will have learned from our mistakes
And dared to be great
So we don’t regret
What we’ve done
And we embrace
What comes after death
When we die
A few will cry
A few will miss us
A few will ache
But
What if death transcends time?
What if we stay alive in the mind of those that loved us?
What happens next
After our inevitable death
Is a mystery
One that the collective history
Can’t solve
A mystery religion gives us answers to
To live
To die
Just for
A promised afterlife
Is a bitter bite
Out of the apple
Can we live our best life while waiting for the next one?—While longing for the next one?
Is there any peace in that belief?
Or just
The denial
Of
death?
The denial of death
Is a trap
That the young
Fall into
So easily
Turn and face your dragon
And peak into the abyss for a minute
There is no escaping it
The reaper comes to collect us all
So give it your all
Pour all of your soul
Into your life
Before your inevitable fall
That is all.
