The Power Of Chaos

I flick at the lighter

sparking the flame

I watch the fire dance

I run my finger over the flame

feeling the heat

I smile

Fire is a double edged sword

Full of life and death

Chaos and order

It can burn down a village

or provide warmth for the freezing child

It can cook our food

But also

Cook us

I let my finger hoover in the flame

It hurts

The pain gets worse

and worse

I see my finger changing color

Turning red

And then black

I see the blister start to form

It’s almost unbearable

Then I pull my finger away from the flame

And run it under cold water.

I stare at my finger curiously

And then at the lighter

The power of chaos

in such

a little thing.
