The Elegant Avoidance Of Anything That Might Unsettle Us

In the end, perhaps the real superpower of this era isn’t strength or courage, but the elegant avoidance of anything that might unsettle us.
Our unique human magic is to be able to distract ourselves from reality. We were granted the fire from the Gods, free will, and this is what we do with it. We ignore what's real with our free will.
The superhuman ability to bury our head in the sand and only hear what we want to hear, so nothing disturbs our comfortable routines—staying stuck in a loop of confirmation bias—is where human evolution has left us. Sick.
Even our stories have become more fun and whimsical and less about what it means to be a human.
Maybe, in the end, all we were destined to be was mindless consumers of all things sugary and shiny.
And maybe our ability to forget the past and distort our memories is how we have evolved to handle our regret and suffering.
. . .
If this one makes you uncomfortable, then you know it was meant for you, because you avoid what could be true.
Oh boy . . . This one is sad.
And to think, it's all because I read a Superman review. Damn.
