Separated By Time

It wasn't just space that separated them
But so did time
She lived 2 years in the future in comparison to him
By some miracle
They met and fell in love with each other
While they slept at night
They dreamt
And it was in their dreams where they fell in love and met
Once a week, for five years, they met in their dreams
He opened his eyes one night
And it was midnight in Paris
And she was dancing with him, spinning and laughing, pulling him closer to her, to whisper in his ear
He melted
Becoming a liquid
Before turning into a gas
He floated around the room, weightless—all of his pain, worries, fears and anxiety fading away
Until he saw a shockingly handsome fella looking her way
Then he became solid again
She changed the chemistry within him
Making him believe in things he thought was only real in fairy-tales and dreams
But it seemed to him that his dreams were more real than his life
His bed became his home
In his head he wasn’t alone
Sleep became an obsession
He left his life in the present and he didn’t regret it
And as they sat on a curb on the side of the street, watching a meteor shower together, they realized that they were from different times
And they wished
On the shooting stars
That no matter when, or how far
They might be
Eventually
They’ll find a way to be together in the real world
He looked away from the silver streaking across the dark sky and into her sparking green eyes
And promised her he would find her some day
And he meant it . . .
So, now he wanders through time and space
Searching for the face
That changed his fate
He searches place after place
He calls her name date after date
When the thunder cracks in the sky
That is his cry
To his lover
He couldn’t live if his promise to her were to become a lie
So night after night
He wanders through all of space/time
In hopes he’ll find
The lady of his dreams
Before he dies
