Philly Cheese Steak 4: 6-7

Philippians 4: 6-7

Sat above her TV

In her bedroom

And as I lay in her bed

After sex

I stared at it

And read it at least 10 times

“Do not be anxious about anything,

but in every situation,

by prayer and petition,

with thanksgiving,

present your requests to God.

And the peace of God,

which transcends all understanding,

will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

I didn’t speak for 5 minutes

And that’s probably why she asked if I wanted the TV on

‘Sure,’ I said.

Shitts Creek comes on

And I had never seen it

And it was

Almost funny.

I didn’t laugh during the first episode we watched together.

The second on was about to start

When I said,

‘I’ll watch this one and then I'm going home.’

‘. . . Okay,’ she said timidly.

I was reading the Bible verse again when she crawled on top of me.

She wanted to go again—I didn't.

I didn't think I could get hard again that quickly

But I did

And he went at it again.

I got dressed right afterwards

And started to walk out of her bedroom

With Philippians 4: 6-7 on my mind

When I saw a giant poster of Satan in their living room.

I stopped and studied it.

Satan was huge

And the poster was

Disturbing.

‘what the fuck?’ I said to myself.

‘what?’ she asked from behind me.

‘Nothing.’

And then I drove home

With the words from that old book

Pinballing between my ears.

The mountain moved! I swear the mountain across the river moved! You see, I asked for it to. It was blocking my view of the sunset. So I closed my eyes, and in my mind, I kindly asked the mountain to

Behind Her Eyelids
