Monster To Man (part 5)

One of them stepped forward
To meet the alpha
Eye to eye
Monster to man
The prey
Rising
To meet the predator
The silly fool had no shot
And as he stood feet away from the beast
He recited a poem to himself
Something he had always recited whenever he was trying to be more than just a coward
Once more into the fray . . .
Into the last good fight I’ll ever know . . .
Live and die on this die . . .
Live and die on this day . . .
He growled at the wolf
After finishing the poem
And in that moment
He wasn’t coward
That was when the two wolves that had been hiding to his right and left attacked
The first one had a bite on his arm before he even knew what had happened
And the second had ahold of his leg
He stumbled backwards
Attempting to punch the wolf attached to his arm
As the alpha jumped at him
With teeth aimed at his neck
He barely raised his arm up in time to block it
The alpha’s teeth sank into his forearm
The other man was trembling
As he swung a fiery stick at the wolves
He tried to scream
But his voice caught in his throat
He was terrified
Hot piss ran down his leg
He gulped
And charged
His fiery stick connected to the back of the alpha
Who let go of his bite
And turned to face him
“Oh, shit . . .”
He turned to run
And the alpha jumped
Landing on the back of the man in an instant
Teeth sinking into his neck
He crawled forward
As the wolf ripped at his flesh
The other five wolves circled them
Drool dripping off of their exposed teeth
Patiently waiting to eat
Lightning struck next to them
Lighting up the scene
And splitting a tree in two
A deafening thunder followed, shaking the mountain
And the man
Who they had pulled out of the lake
And carried up a mountain
The frozen man
The man who had died
He rose
Standing slowly
Stretching
With a deep yawn
He rubbed his eyes, before scanning the scene in front of him
A strange smile slowly formed on his face
He popped his neck by violently turning his head from left to right
Then he popped his back
The alpha let go of the man’s neck
Blood gushing out of the wound
The man grabbed at the opening with his hands, trying to stop the bleeding
The two other wolves let go of the other man
And circled behind the alpha
All of the yellow eyes were on the man who had just risen
He looked at his two friends and frowned
“W-we thought you died . . .” one of them whispered
“Not yet,” he said, while crouching. “Not quite.”
The wolves growled at him.
He smiled back. And looking right into their yellow eyes, he saw his own reflection.
“I couldn’t miss this party,” he said, right before sprinting straight towards the alpha.
