L I F E

A man catches a bug in his hands

And brings it outside

To set it free

Instead of smashing it with his hands

And a child

Stares at wonder

At the fire hydrant

As if it was magical

The old lady

Gives me hug

Simply because

She hasn’t seen me in awhile

The girlfriend

Mails her long distance boyfriend

A book, some paint and brushes

For their date nights

She promises to love him in all of his forms

And he believes her

The water nymph

Climbs out of the water

And transforms

Into a dragon

The elopement photographer

Is stuck

Capturing moments of love for others

Without ever feeling it herself

The man

Works a crap job

To support his wife and three kids

Waking up every morning at 4am

But he

Always

Has a smile

On his face

When

He

Gets

Home

The old man

Carry’s a bag of cans on his back

As if he was St. Nick

Delivering presents

To the homeless

But he

Returns the bag of cans at the bottle redemption

And makes $3.75

Which he spends

On a cup of coffee

The billionaire pop star drops a shit album

And has the audacity

To blame

Her fans

The man with a sling on his arm

Jumps in the river

To save

Two drowning

Obese old folks

He ruins his recent shoulder surgery

Swimming like Nemo

They never thank him

They never see him again

But a group of middle kids

See’s what he did

I pack up all of my things

In my car

And drive to Iowa

To be with

The woman that I am falling madly in love with

Because some people

Are worth risking everything for

The fighter

Who used to be full of anger

Feels peace for the first time

And the beast

Inside

Dies

The writer

Who used to be full of suffering

Has finally healed

And now

His poems

Suck

Ass

The little boy can’t sit still in class

The young girl has a family that rides her ass. They expect her to be perfect.

So she hides who she really is from them—from almost everyone.

And the dog

Waits by the door

For his daily walk

For 7 hours

Before his father

Makes it back to him

This is a glimpse of a few moments during our crazy journey we have labeled as          life.

He Still Lives

He still lives. I thought I had killed him. But here he is again. I wonder . . . is he immortal? And, if I can’t kill him, who the hell can? He lingers still. How? How?! Why? Maybe there is somethin

The Mountain Moved

The mountain moved! I swear the mountain across the river moved! You see, I asked for it to. It was blocking my view of the sunset. So I closed my eyes, and in my mind, I kindly asked the mountain to

Behind Her Eyelids

A nightmare fluttered behind her eyelids. She was naked and her ankle was chained to an anchor. The current raged against her. She swam and swam and swam going nowhere. The sea was cold; the sky was
