Good Morning?

Good morning to you

Whoever you are

   Wherever you are

Good morning to you

     You woke up today

You woke up again

   You got out of bed

And any day we can do that

    That’s a good day

. . .

I’m trying to be more positive these days

Please don’t judge me for that

I am trying to believe in good things

I know not every morning is 'good'

And I know a relentless optimism gets annoying

I know acting self-righteous appears to be pretentious

But I get to chose my attitude

I get to choose what to believe in

I get the opportunity to nudge this little life of mine along

So if I want to try to believe that every day that we get out of bed is a good one

   Then, please, be understanding

I can’t get stuck in the pit

    I can’t fight the abyss

I need a little light

   I need a little hope

So I’ll say it again

    Good morning to you

And if that read with subtle anger brewing in it

   You’d be right

I am angry

   I try to ignore it

But it lingers around the corner

Waiting for it’s chance to party

And this is why

I must feed my soul relentless optimism

I have to believe in the good

    I have to have hope

You better have a good day

You need to see it my way

You need to believe what I believe

   Please

Believe what I believe

   Don’t hate today

Don’t hate me for having things like this to say

    Don’t hate the gray sky

Don’t hate their eyes

    Don’t poison your mind

Don’t waste your time

Believe what I want you to believe

Become naive

Trust that good things are coming

See the darkness

But don’t let it become your fuel

No

   Feed off the light

Don’t focus on the negative

   Focus on the positive

Because

The stories we tell ourselves are so gravely important to how these little lives unfold for us

So believe my stories

    Trust my words

Life is more than absurd

   Create your own meaning

Paint your own picture

    Write your own lines

Steer your own ship

This is your life, so own it

Take responsibility for it

    Choose your attitude

Do exactly like I try to do

    Follow my path

Do the math

    Subtract the negative

And insert an illuminated path

We are magnets, you and I

And you get some conscious choose on what you attract to you

   Or what you repel away

You can take every day

   And try

You can hold it and mold it

You can take your little pockets of free will

And do something with it

    Your thoughts are seeds

How will you grow it?

  Do you know?

Or do you just trust the sun? Trust the rain?

    Reach up to the sun

Plant your roots down deep

Life will give you a sliver of what you seek

Do exactly what I tell you to do

   Listen with your soul

Make these ideas your home

   Have a good morning

Have a good afternoon

    Have a good night

If you can choose it, then do it

Live how I want you to live

Because that’ll make my life easier

   It’ll confirm what I think I know

And it’ll feel good to watch you grow

   So digest these words

Eat them up

Take whatever you need from them

And believe what I want you to believe

Live how I want you to live

Learn how to forgive

   Learn how to trust

Learn to love

  And learn to ignore lust

 Don’t be different than me

    I don’t have the mental capacity for an enemy . . .

I can’t have your negativity affecting me

That doesn’t fit in my box

That’s not what I want to feed my soul

I can’t look at the world the way you do

So be like me

  Talk like I talk

Walk where I’ve walked

Say good morning to people passing by

And try

To convert them to our way

Have them join our cult

With these words, give them hope

Make your unique perspective my perspective

See it how I see it

Believe it

. . . what do you see?

I hope

   You see the smoke . . .

I hope you know this is a joke . . .

I hope you see the irony . . .

I hope you don’t listen to me . . .

Be careful who you trust.

2,000 year old stories can get so stale and boring . . .

The only honest thing I said here was,

I hope that you have a good morning.

Everything else is just a show I'd suggest ignoring.
