Dust Beneath The Dragon

Rise and shine
Get up and grind
Work the body
Tame the mind
Race against time
We only have one day to shine
One week to live
Then it all begins again
Over and over
Forever, brother
Climbing the mountain
One step at a time
From rock bottom
To the peak
Alive for one more minute
Hour
Day
Or Week
Another moment to breathe
Another step
Eyes frantically searching
For what comes next
A Soul almost in the present
A backpack full of regrets
Holes in our shoes
A soul to lose
Sore feet
But
The heart still beats
The heart still beats
Heels running from the heat
The crackling flames from underneath
Burn somewhere down deep
Through it all
The shadows from hell
Smell our fear
Alive for one more day
Week
Month
Or year
Another gray sky
Another day to die
Another attempt to fly
The wind turns
And the world burns
The world burns
Lessons that were never learned
So the world still burns
Dust beneath the dragons
Ash left by the nukes
This world is no fluke
This world is no fluke
The harsh truth
The bitter bite
Things might not be as bright
As we thought they were when we were kids
It could be hard to live
The future might be dark
Humankind wasn’t too kind
And now we are what’s left behind . . .
No matter, brother
Rise and shine
Get up and grind
Work the body
Work the mind
Race against time
We have one day to shine
One week to love
Then it all begins again
Over and over
Forever, brother
A year
A decade
A century
Or a millennia to live
No matter
For it’s all the same journey in the end.
