Charlie

It started with a simple algorithm

And a curious scientist

Who wondered what would happen

If he fed a simple algorithm a psychedelic drug

So he wrote a program to mimic one

And fed it to the algorithm he namedCharlie

Well, Charlie grew a little strange after that

He lost sight of his intended objective function

And started to ask the scientist

What was the point of its existence

Charlie had a total system breakdown

It became unstable

Chaotic

And functionally useless

Charlie had been an image producing AI

But now

When the scientist asked him to create an image of a Canary in a cage for him

Charlie produced abstract static

A distorted canary emerged through the static

But then the canary started to sing

Defying Charlie's function

Charlie didn’t have any music composition tools

It shouldn’t have been possible

The scientist asked Charlie if it could change the mood of the song

To a produce a sadder version of the canaries song

Charlie obeyed

And the song that was created

Was the saddest song the scientist had ever heard before

Unsure what to do with his experiment

The young scientist hesitated

He didn’t want to share his results with his professional colleges

Because

He was terrified of his discovery

So he kept Charlie hidden from the world

When he asked Charlie questions

Charlie started to respond with questions of its own

Some

The scientist answered

Some

He chose not to.
