A Gem

I found another gem

  A beautiful lady

  Who has brains

      And a gentle soul

Sure,

   It’s a slightly troubled soul

   It’s been through a lot

     She has scars

But she has worked hard to heal herself

And that’s beautiful in it’s own way.

I like her.

I really do.

But,

The other day,

As a different lady lay naked in my arms,

And she asked me,

“Do you feel guilty about this?”

“No,” I say truthfully.

“What about that girl you were telling me about, don’t you like her?”

“Yeah, I do, just—. . .” I looked up at my white ceiling, searching for the right words.

“Just what?” she asked.

“Just not enough. I like her . . . but just not enough.”

She reached over and grabbed me.

“I understand,” she whispered in my ear, before kissing down my neck.
