Just Being

Do we need to feel progress?

Or can we just be?

Without a wind in our sails,

Can we just flow with the tides of life?

Do we need to rage against it?

The wind takes us wherever she wills it,

We have no choice in how life hits us,

But maybe,

After the storms pass,

We can set our ship

Back on course

In a direction we hope to go.

There needs to be a flexibility to our lives–

Not too attached to one direction,

But willing to flow when we need to;

A willingness to let go,

And an understanding that we don’t have

Complete control,

In fact,

We hardly have any control.

Life gives us an inch in front of our face,

And we must take that inch,

Repeatedly,

For it is all she will give us.
